Cartouche with a Reclining Woman Holding Her Breast and a Reclining Nude Youth Framing a Blank Vertical Rectangle
Etching by Jacques Androuet Du Cerceau.
Herbet, IV, 1900, 306 (1969, 155), VI (Petits Cartouches), 13.
COLLECTIONS: Amsterdam (De Jong and de Groot, 1988, 227, 542.13, Fig.). New York, 62.525, no. 4 (another version of this print with the figures reversed). It appears in the right direction in Baldus, 1881.
This print is closely copied in the same direction from Fantuzzi’s etching (Fig.E.87), but with the center area left empty, which seems to go back to a lost drawing by Rosso for the decoration of the Cleobis and Biton wall in the Gallery of Francis I.
