1 Transcribed from Waldman and Franklin, 1999, 112, Documentary Appendix, Doc. 2.

In their discussion of this document, Waldman and Franklin (105-107) point out that it is the first documentary evidence of Rosso’s presence in Piombino by its reference to the artist’s contract with the confraternity of the Corpus Christi on “XI Ianuarii 1521 stilo plumbinensi.” That contract would have been a copy of the original contract used in the evaluation of the completed Christo morto painted for the confraternity’s chapel in the church of Santi Lorenzo e Antimo.
