The City of Poughkeepsie announced the renewal of Hudson Valley Community Power, a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program that allows residents, businesses, and municipalities to pool local electricity demand with other Hudson Valley municipalities to provide low cost, fixed-rate renewable electricity supply.
Each participating community has selected Joule Community Power as Program Administrator. Joule works on behalf of the municipalities to secure clean energy supply at the most favorable terms and ensures there are no contact or exit feeds for consumers.
Two virtual information sessions are scheduled (May 27th at 7pm and June 1st at 7pm EST.)

The River Newsroom and Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress are hosting an online forum about affordable housing solutions from legislation, the nonprofit sector, progressive economic development initiatives, and more. This conversation will cover the most interesting ideas people have right now about housing of topic, including: legislative and policy fixes, solutions from the nonprofit sector, progressive economic development initiatives, and more. Panelists will present what they are working on, and there will be room for a lengthy audience Q&A at the end. The Southern Waterfront Redevelopment Task Force of the City of Poughkeepsie welcomes public comment at our meetings and believes public engagement will be critical to fostering a welcoming and accessible waterfront for all to enjoy. To participate in an upcoming task force meeting, please register by the link below. Anyone wishing to comment at the meeting may raise their hand to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting and will have up to four minutes to speak. Worker Justice Center of New York’s webinar, César Chávez & The Future of Farmworker Organizing in New York State, will discuss César Chávez’s legacy in the Workers’ Rights Movement and explore the future of farmworker organizing in New York, one year after the passage of the NY Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act. The panel discussion will have English and Spanish interpretation.

Crispin Hernandez is Mixteco from a corn growing region in southern Mexico. He worked in New York’s dairy industry for 3 years and is currently an organizer at the Workers‘ Center of Central New York.
Angelica Uribe worked harvesting fruit in Wayne County in her youth. Her parents are agricultural workers and immigrants. She is currently an organizer for the union UFCW One.
Carlos Orellana has been an organizer with United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) since 2008. He co-founded the Independent Farmworkers Center (CITA) in the early nineties during his years with the Rural and Migrant Ministry (RMM). Currently, he is one of the organizers helping with the farmworkers campaign in NYS, collaborating with three of our local unions.
Librada Paz: came to the United States as a young girl in search of a better future. She came to this country and worked in the field, facing many abuses. She worked on the farm until she graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology. After school she was invited to join Rural Migrant Ministry to fight against injustices that farmworkers were facing and are still facing. She continues to help workers speak out and fight for themselves for a better future.
