The Holiday Book Sale features thousands of gift-quality books and media, sorted into multiple categories and most priced at $4 or less per item. All items will be half-price on Sunday. This year’s sale again offers an additional room for specially priced vintage items, coffee-table books, items, and books of local interest, collectible books and books signed by authors.

 This exhibition has been over a year in the making. In collaboration with the Howland Public Library and the Beacon Historical Society. Artist and curator Donna Mikkelsen has put together a series of historical pictographs to tell the incredible story of what is now our free Public Library – it wasn’t always that way! Howland Cultural Center 150th Anniversary Opening Night (in person)

Save the Date! Exhibition opening and performance, Saturday, August 6th at 6pm. Come celebrate our Library’s 150th anniversary! The exhibit will take place at the Howland Cultural Center the original library building, from August 6th – September 25th. Join us opening night on August 6th for a special performance with local performers! There is an exciting line up of exhibits and events at the Library, the Cultural Center and Historical Society.

Poughkeepsie Book Festival (in person)

The Poughkeepsie Public Library District hosts its annual Book Festival! Meet and greet over 40 authors and illustrators (covering reading ages from preschool to Young Adult), costumed book characters such as Elephant and Piggie, Estaban the Magnificent from The Day the Crayons Came Home, Curious George, and more! There will be fun crafts and activities for the kids. Books will be available to purchase and to have signed by the authors and illustrators who made them. Free to attend. No registration required.
Masks may be required based on local conditions.

Exploring Your Family Tree (remote)

In this introductory genealogy class, attendees will explore a variety of resources available for researching family history. Attendees will receive a general overview of several free open source websites, subscription databases available with your library card, and physical materials accessible in the Genealogy Room at Adriance. This virtual class will be recorded and available at a later date on the PPLD YouTube channel.
