Emotional Support, Academic Support/Tutoring with Finish Strong

Finish Strong  provides non-contact boxing and other activities as well as mental health counseling to address trauma and build resiliency in youth and young adults. They strive to bring experiences to the classroom that youth would not otherwise encounter, such as:

  • Drawing, painting, and other arts/crafts
  • Film and media
  • Singing, musical instruments
  • Culture and history
  • Cooking
  • Sports and physical activity
  • Nature and gardening
  • Yoga/body and mind connection
  • Or any other ideas!

CEL students should be able to assist youth with social emotional learning & emotional support using various outlets such as arts & crafts and other therapeutic practices.

Location: Family Partnership Center, 29 N Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie NY, 12601 

Desired Skills:

  • The student should have a skill of interest that they would teach to the participants
  • A desire to work with kids ages 8-15
  • Be prepared for a very active and engaging experience!

Hours: Flexible hours during Monday through Friday between 3-8pm; Students can register for either 0.5 unit or 1.0 unit of credit ( min. 40 hrs with org over the semester for + 30 hrs of academic work OR min. 80 hr over the semester with org + 60 hours of academic work)

Finish Strong will provide training on trauma-informed care and practices, as well as other areas of interest the intern may have.

Family Friendly Halloween Party (in-person)

If you or someone you know might be interested in volunteering, please either email Julie Riess at jriess@doelc.org or Estefany Umbach at eumbach@doelc.org. There are 90 minute slots for volunteering (starting with 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm and on the half hour. You can also work 1:00 to 4:00 pm)
