State of the City Address (in person)

Mayor Marc Nelson will deliver his State of the City address at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 at The Academy, 33 Academy St., Poughkeepsie. The public is invited to attend. Please RSVP by Tuesday, March 21 to Allyson Smith at ASmith@cityofpoughkeepsie.com.

In his State of the City address, Mayor Nelson will provide updates on key initiatives, including reviewing the city’s progress toward fiscal solvency.

“We are continuing to build on the progress made over the last few years,” said Mayor Nelson. “Poughkeepsie’s potential has long been understood, but now we are seeing the realization through an economic resurgence and development. This is a dynamic period for our culturally rich and diverse city, and capitalizing on our assets, working with our business community, partnering with our nonprofit organizations and encouraging smart growth will be among our focuses this year.”

Nelson previously served as the city’s Finance Commissioner and as tax collector for the City of Hartford, Ct. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University at Albany and a master’s degree in public administration from Marist College.

The State of the City address also will be made available for replay on the city’s website, www.cityofpoughkeepsie.com.

Holiday Craft Fair (in person)

The Mid-Hudson Civic Center hosts a Holiday Craft Fair 2021.

Handmade fleece blankets, crocheted scarves, handmade jewelry & clutches, hair accessories, homemade limited ingredient dog treats, handcrafted rope dog toys; shirts, fabric items from repurposed clothing & scraps, hippie type jewelry and things made with locally grown flowers, baby gifts, button art, handmade tags, handbuilt ceramic jewelry, hand poured & decorated candles, wood critters, hair scrunchies, handcrafted soap, balms, scrubs, frames with all natural sea glass stones, pickles, deer antler pieces, tables, mittens, original photos on coasters/trivets/cutting boards, CBD Lotions/Tinctures/Gummies.

Walkway at Night – Halloween Edition (in-person)

The Friends of the Walkway nonprofit organization is pleased to once again offer the opportunity to enjoy amazing Hudson Valley views after dark from 212 feet above the Hudson River at Walkway at Night. With the moon hanging high in the sky and the Mid-Hudson Bridge twinkling in the distance, there is truly nothing like a moonlit evening on the World’s Longest Elevated Pedestrian Bridge. This event takes place from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Everyone, including children, must reserve a ticket for entry at walkway.org/walkwayatnight and check in at the appropriate gate upon arrival.
Visitors are encouraged to come in costume and children will receive a treat upon entry.
As always, Walkway members are welcome to attend at no cost. Non-members can register for $5. Members have been emailed a special discount code to use upon registration providing one complimentary admission to Individual members, and up to five complimentary admissions for Family members.

Childhood is a sensitive and powerful time in our lives. Queen City 15 Gallery juried show exhibition incorporates artwork that addresses this phase of human experience in many different ways: literal, narrative, expressive, iconographic.

Cathy Schmitz is a writer, poet and photographer living in Poughkeepsie, NY. Her essays and poems have been published in several regional and national magazines. She is active in the revitalization efforts in the City of Poughkeepsie. Come to Queen City 15 Gallery on Main Street to have a poem written for you by Cathy!
