Our group is going to measure the amount of radiation that is emitted from various foods that are consumed frequently. We will begin by selecting foods that are known to emit radiation on a measurable scale. Furthermore, it will be determined how much radioactive food must be consumed in order for one to develop acute radiation syndrome.

Neat! This may contribute to educating the general public on common misconceptions involving radiation. Our librarian, Rachel Ramer, is also a Health Physicist and may serve as a great resource. I am not sure what radiation detectors we have available at Vassar. We have some, but they may not cover all the radiation types, i.e., alpha, beta, gamma.
