Pedagogy in Action: Community Engagement during COVID-19

Presented by:

Erin McCloskey, Associate Professor, Education

Lisa Kaul, Director, Office of Community-Engaged Learning

This workshop will provide the opportunity for participants to re/imagine the possibilities for community-engaged learning and community engagement more broadly during COVID-19. Where does community engagement fit into the liberal art curriculum? How does an anchor institution like Vassar continue to responsibly engage with our community while self- isolating? We will structure conversations to include the voices of a wide variety of stakeholders including The National Society for Experiential Education, partners from our direct community, faculty members who engage deeply in this work, and students who are currently completing their placements in the community as Community Fellows.

Hear From Faculty:

I particularly appreciated Lisa’s presentation as well as those of the community partners.  The Omprakash presentation was also very interesting.  All of it gave me food for thought, provoked me.

-Katherine Hite, Professor of Political Science on the F. Thompson Chair and Director of Research Development, Vassar College

I’m happy to be a faculty sponsor for any students who are interested in education/learning projects. I’d also love to think about whether research opportunities could be combined with CEL work. Thank you for this incredible workshop, Lisa and Erin!

-Ah-Young Song, Visiting Assistant Professor of Education, Vassar College
