In her talk, “Africana Religious Literacies: Honoring Ancestry and the Divine Feminine in Language Learning,” Dr. Martin offers insights on the intersections of race, religion and language in education. Through analyzing both personal stories and oral history narratives from the “Embodied Memories” podcast, attendees will explore how practices of ancestral veneration and honoring the Divine Feminine offer tools for deepening our understanding of literacy, linguistics, and Africana religious systems.
