Learning Session: Understanding Harmful Algal Blooms on the Hudson
The Hudson is experiencing its largest harmful algal bloom (HAB) on record. A green sheen of toxic bacteria centered near Kingston is covering the river and has been observed at various locations primarily from Poughkeepsie to Germantown. These outbreaks of blue-green algae can release toxins, threaten fish and wildlife, and raise serious concerns for people and pets.
Join Riverkeeper’s experts for a lunchtime session on Tuesday, September 23, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, to learn what harmful algal blooms are, why they matter, and what the recent bloom in the Hudson tells us about the river’s health. You will have a chance to ask questions about Riverkeeper’s current response to this unprecedented situation and deepen your understanding of how we can work together to keep communities safe and informed.
