Liberty and Justice for Whom?: Personal Stories of the Locally Enslaved in the American Revolution
November 6 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The promise of liberty, based on the principle that all are created equal, was appealing. But during the revolution, enslaved men, women, and children in Dutchess County at best found a mixed bag of success and setbacks. Through the stories of five individuals: Sophia Pooley, Andrew Frazier, Jacob Lyle, and two local men named Jack on opposite sides of the war, we come to understand the uncertainty of the American promise for the enslaved.
