Current Lab Members

Zayn Cheema –  Class of 2025; Neuroscience and Behavior Major

Zayn joined us in the Spring of 2024. Zayn is working on a project to understand how the distribution of sound energy and seasonal changes in habitat structure influence the active space of chickadee, titmice, and nuthatch vocalizations at the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve. She is working closely with Zahara on our sound propagation experiment.

Zahara Goldkin –  Class of 2025; Environmental Studies Major

Zahara joined us in the Spring of 2023. Zahara is working on a project to understand how the distribution of sound energy and seasonal changes in habitat structure influence the active space of chickadee, titmice, and nuthatch vocalizations at the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve. She is our main field work coordinator and current sound propagation experiment leader.

Alex Graber –  Class of 2027; Biology

Alex joined the lab as an HHMI rising sophomore in the summer of 2024. Alex is working on a project to understand how the distribution of sound energy and seasonal changes in habitat structure influence the active space of chickadee, titmice, and nuthatch vocalizations at the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve. Alex has been working on propagation and vegetation density experiments. He and Lauren are our resident vegetation analysis experts. He is also our best copy editor and checklist maker.

Gabriel Grimes –  Class of 2026; Neuroscience and Behavior Major

Gabe joined the lab as a Beckman Scholar in the summer of 2024. As our Beckman scholar, Gabe has been working on a project to quantify sound source amplitude of bird vocalization in collaboration with Tim Boycott (a Gall lab alum!) at Cornell University.

Lauren Jones –  Class of 2027; Double Major in Biology and Religion

Lauren joined us in the Spring of 2024. Lauren is working on a project to understand how the distribution of sound energy and seasonal changes in habitat structure influence the active space of chickadee, titmice, and nuthatch vocalizations at the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve. Lauren and Alex are our current vegetation analysis experts.

Susie Osborne –  Class of 2026; Cognitive Science Major

Susie joined us in the Fall of 2023 and is working on a project to understand how the distribution of sound energy and seasonal changes in habitat structure influence the active space of chickadee, titmice, and nuthatch vocalizations at the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve. She has become our resident background sound level / sound level meter expert.

Kalina Sloat –  Class of 2026; Neuroscience and Behavior Major

Kalina soft joined the lab in the Spring of 2023 and became a full fledged member in Fall of 2023. Kalina is working on a project to understand how the distribution of sound energy and seasonal changes in habitat structure influence the active space of chickadee, titmice, and nuthatch vocalizations at the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve. She is on of our experts on sound attenuation and signal fidelity. She is studying abroad in the Spring of 2025.
