In the 21st century, reconstructed monastery complexes and manicured grounds once again attract large numbers of pilgrims to Mount Putuo, and this modern sixty-five foot statue of Guanyin now dramatically reasserts the bodhisattva’s presence on the island. Millions visit this pilgrimage site each year.
