Podcast of the Week 15: Poetry in Prison

Writer Cristina Domenech teaches poetry to inmates in an Argentinian prison. This incredible workshop is organized through a university and operates out of a building constructed on site at the prison specifically for this purpose. The poetry that the men and boys write there “Frees the Soul” according to Domenech. “They wanted to put on paper all that they couldn’t say and do,” she says. Inspired, she leads them to do just that. Hear her speak about the inmates’ journeys of self-discovery and the subsequent effect they’ve had on her in this TEDtalk, which ends with one of the inmates, Martín Bustamante, performing some of his own poetry produced in the workshop.
