Wouldn’t it be wonderful if a painting made you dance? Graphic artist Shezad Dawood was commissioned an artwork that extends along a ten meter vertical drop in Sadler’s Wells Theatre. The London based artist works mostly with Pakistani textile fabrics from the 70s as foundation material, and then layers his works with screen prints and hand paintings. This nine panel composition is almost impossible to view in its entirety, except if the viewer were to approach the wall itself and observe it from a vantage point below. Thus, Dawood’s creation incorporates dancing into his work, not only by representing it pictorially, but by implicating the viewer as well. Tate Modern’s podcast explains and depicts the process undergone before the artwork’s completion. Watch here!
