It’s Time for Science Storytime!

We don’t always consider it, but science isn’t neutral. That’s not to say we should ignore science or treat it like an opinion, of course! The systematic rigour of the scientific method is meant to get us as close to a reliable truth as possible, which is part of what makes it such a valuable tool. Nevertheless, it is always important to think critically about every type of knowledge, including that gained through the process of science. After all, researchers are people who bring personal histories to their work, and science is a system of thought that doesn’t exist in a vacuum. In this week’s presentation, Prof. José Perillán has a lot to share about the stories and myths that get told about science in our society all the time.

José is a professor of Physics and Science, Technology, and Society (STS) at Vassar college as well as a member of the Grand Challenges core team. He is dedicated to enriching interdisciplinary discourse about science as well as fostering a sense of belonging for all students in STEM.

I hope you enjoy this thought provoking, science-storytime piece as much as we did, and can’t wait to see people Thursday at the opening of our crochet coral display! Also, check in again tomorrow morning for the next video of this series 🙂
