Not all Corals are Crocheted!

Did you know that corals are alive!? Or that they are actually animals made up of many tiny structures called polyps? Or that they are symbiotic creatures? Well, this is the right place to learn some more about how truly amazing corals and reef ecosystems are from Prof. Jodi Schwarz!

Jodi is a professor in the Biology department here at Vassar as well as a Co-director of the Grand Challenges Program and a member of EPI. (She also helped organize this project!). Her primary research at Vassar focuses on symbiosis in corals, which is a scientific way of saying she studies the interactions between organisms living closely together.

This is the first of our four presentations for the Community Coral Project, and it is wonderful! I personally learned so much during the talk and had a million questions (as you’ll see by watching haha!). I hope you enjoy this video, and if you have more questions, come by on Thursday to talk to Jodi about corals in person!

Stay tuned for our next video tomorrow!
