New paper on pSK41 Cop published in Plasmid

So excited to tell you about our latest paper published in Plasmid! The analysis of the crystal structure in this paper was completed by Faith Northern VC ’22, 4th in author list, as part of her Vassar College senior biochemistry research! Congrats! URSI Symposium 2023

The McLaughlin Lab had two posters at the Vassar URSI Symposium in September this year! Jordan Norman ’24 (left) presented her summer work titled “Structural Characterization of Conjugative Proteins from pCU1 and pSK41”. Jas Kaur ’25 and Vidya Iyengar ’26 (right) presented their work titled “Structural Investigation of Potential Relaxosome Protein from Staphylococcus aureus pSK41″. Protein Crystallography CURE, Publication, Highlighted in Acta Crys F Editorial & Cover!

Very proud of this work we just published in Acta Crystallographia F! The research was done by undergrad students in Dr. McLaughlin’s protein crystallography class in Spring ’23, which is run as a CURE (Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience). Students analyzed an unpublished crystal structure from the @SSGCID, then designed/ran experiments to test function. The first three authors Read more about Protein Crystallography CURE, Publication, Highlighted in Acta Crys F Editorial & Cover![…]

Our 1st Paper Published!

Excited to announce the first paper out of the McLaughlin Lab @Vassar has been published! This work was in collaboration with the SSGCID, and the lead student author is Justas Rodarte VC ’19, who was one of the first students to join the lab. Chemistry World Interview

Had the opportunity to talk to @ChemistryWorld about my experience during this time, how it has affected my @Vassar research, teaching, and life in general. -KM From Chemistry World: Protein x-ray crystallographer Krystle McLaughlin talks about lab life on hold, not far from the epicentre of the US coronavirus outbreak: here.

Summer in the Lab

This summer we welcomed three research students, Justas Rodarte ’19 (who is a returning member) and Sharika Hasan ’19 through the Vassar URSI program, and Gabi James ’22 through the DIR program. As of July 1st, we already have some beautiful data- check out Sharika’s our enzyme assay below:

Dr. McLaughlin Elected to ACA Communications Committee

Congrats to Dr. Krystle McLaughlin who has been elected to the standing Communications Committee of the American Crystallographic Association.  She will be joining Katrina Forest, Jim Fettinger and Brian Patrick on this committee, to serve a four-year term. She was also re-elected to serve another term as the Secretary for the ACA Biological Macromolecules SIG. Read more about Dr. McLaughlin Elected to ACA Communications Committee[…]
