Project Description:

For the past seven years, I have organized and executed “The Launch” on the Vassar campus. It is an annual bottle rocket contest open to college and pre-college students and held annually on the Vassar campus. The iPad changed the way I record the event (not just snippets of my students’ phones). The iPad pro with its advanced filming technology helped me tremendously to encourage local schools and Vassar students to compete in this contest that celebrates science on our campus. This technology also took my teaching to the next level in my EDUC 361 class (“Teaching Math and Science in the Elementary Classroom) to demonstrate the science behind the contest to my Vassar College students, via the video footage, and when I do presentations at the local K-12 schools. I encourage my colleagues to consider using mobile technology like this that allows greater flexibility to conduct teaching/learning experiences beyond the classroom.
