Awardee: Barry Lam
Semester of Award: Fall 2015
Materials Awarded: I purchased two Shure SM7B microphones, a mixing board, studio monitors, a power conditioner, and microphone desktop stands.
Project Description:
I used the equipment to record the pilot episode of Hi-Phi Nation, which then received an NEH Summer Stipend, for which I then received a yearlong fellowship at Duke University to produce the first season of the podcast Hi-Phi Nation. Along the way, I hired four different student-producer/Ford scholars over two different summers. I ended up producing the entire first season, and am now in the beginning stages of releasing the second season, of the Hi-Phi Nation podcast, which received rave reviews in the press and garnered over 400,000 downloads within the first six months of release. I am taking the knowledge and teaching a course on podcast production next semester.
