This Saturday, April 30th, a host of free, socially conscious arts events are taking place in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. From 2:00-6:00p, a total of 15 performances, installations, and activities will be stationed around the area . The event is organized and will feature performances by the Re|Marking, “a body-based womanist community group of artists and activists.” Eager to make change in the community, the group’s first event will be on Saturday.
Re|Marking refers to the impact of our bodies on our environment, even while we know all too well the reserve
paradigm. […] The title is a nod to the act of mark-marking and the physicality inherent in studio practices. It affirms the drive to speak out on important issues, or to engage through the vehicle of one’s body, as opposed to so called ‘slactivism’ or less engaged methods.– Megan Young, Co-Curator
