In the past, we’ve frequently discussed the creative ways in which artists tell their own stories. We’ve neglected to focus on the other side of the story: the creative ways in which artists tell other people’s stories. Bianca Giaever has never neglected this. In fact, the 24-year old filmmaker and radio producer has made quite the name for herself because of her talent in this area. In 2013, she asked a little boy, Asa, what she should make a movie about. The resulting film, the Scared is scared, was named “Web Video of the Year” by USA Today. Bianca brilliantly illustrates Asa’s story in the 8-minute film in clever and unexpected ways. Since then, she has shared her talents with an even wider audience: the radio show This American Life. In her video series on the show, “Videos 4 U,” she helps people say things that they’ve struggled to say on their own. Maia, for example, has been with her boyfriend Alex for 8 years and neither of them has ever said “I love you.” So, Bianca made a video to help Maia say it first. Check out both of these videos below. If you like what you see, let us know! You may even get the chance to tell Bianca herself, as she she’ll be on campus today, Friday April 3rd to give a presentation to the film department.
