food for creative making, doing, and thinking
In today’s day in age, it seem’s like there is an app for everything, from helping you do your grocery shopping to recognizing the names of songs playing on the radio.
Amsterdam’s Stedelijk Museum recently created the Mood App, which is meant to capture the “cathartic experience” of viewing art based on the way one’s mood affects one’s perception of a work. The app functions by collecting a series of pieces that correspond to a specific mood, creating a virtual tour of artwork in the gallery with optional audio commentary.
The potential of this app is exciting from a variety of perspectives, from that of a researcher of psychology to a therapist to an artist to a curator. Not only can this app attract more people to the Stedelijk Museum, but also to the arts in general. The app also opens the doors to making art therapy more convenient, as it is now accessible on Apple products as well as Android devices.
