As of late, NPR has produced a series of broadcasts called 50 Great Teachers in which they celebrate — you guessed it — teachers. This particular broadcast discusses teachers in the context of movies and, thus, is aptly called “What the Movies Taught Us About Teaching.” The template for teachers and their relationships with their students in films has changed over time. NPR movie critic Bob Mondello takes us on a journey through that change featuring sound bites from various films. From Blackboard Jungle (1955) with Glenn Ford to School of Rock (2003) with Jack Black to Whiplash (2014) with J. K. Simmons, follow Mondello on this journey. You never know what you might learn along the way.
