“The value of nothing: out of nothing comes something.” – Amy at 11 in an essay (given a B+).
Amy Tan is an American writer known for her book The Joy Luck Club which was made into a successful film in the early 90s. In this TED Talk, she discusses creativity in general, as well as her specific creative process which thrives on moral ambiguity. She understands that, in many cases, our actions do not always line up with our intentions and that this discrepancy makes for great storytelling. For a bit of comic relief, Tan also weaves scientific anecdotes or references (i.e. quantum mechanics and string theory) into the discussion to relate to the more scientifically-minded people in the audience. Laugh and learn with the TED audience as Amy Tan’s discussion of creativity begins with her childhood and travels all around the world to the places in which she’s sought inspiration. Maybe you’ll find some there too!
