This is the blog for the Spring 2018 Vassar College course Field Experiences in the Hudson Valley. Taught by Leonard Nevarez for the Environmental Studies Program, our theme this semester is Sustaining Local Agriculture. Here you’ll find photos and essays by students documenting the farms and other agricultural destinations we visit.
The course has three main learning objectives:
- To visit and appreciate the farms and agriculture of the Hudson Valley in their local particularity and broader significance.
- To critically analyze the food systems, human geographies, and cultural systems that mediate people’s connections to Hudson Valley agriculture.
- To become expert in, and be held accountable for, some knowledge of the Hudson Valley through blogging, documentary contributions, and social media.
