Ipad as Remote Blackboard

Project Description:

I used the ipad to create a remote blackboard and a space for sharing and annotating text while teaching hybrid and holding office hours by zoom. I used this in several classes, but primarily in my elementary Greek class where access to a blackboard is especially important. I used the ipad in conjunction with the app. Notability. Through Notability I had access to various kinds of “paper” (blank, lined, graph etc) that I could write on and highlight with various colors. By connecting my ipad to the computer from which I was zooming (whether in the classroom or from my personal computer during office hours), I could then share my screen so that remote students could see the screen I was writing on at home and students in person could see it projected in the classroom. I could also, by putting a pdf of a document into Notability, such as a handout or a piece of text that we were reading, annotate the text and project the document in the same way.

This technology was truly transformative and greatly enhanced my ability to teach in a hybrid format. While we are, thankfully, not teaching by zoom anymore, I continue to make use of this set up when I need to meet with a student by zoom, and would definitely recommend it to others.
