Tablet as a versatile communication tool in teaching & research

Awardee: Ming-Wen An

Semester of Award: Spring 2018

Materials Awarded: 10.5-inch iPad Pro
Apple pencil

Project Description:

For teaching purposes, I use the tablet to comment on PDF homework submissions. I also use it as a “whiteboard” for office hours discussions (our notes are then recorded electronically and can be shared with the student) and for responding to e-mailed questions from students (where the responses can’t be typed in e-mail text only). In the future, I’d like to expand my use of the tablet. e.g. record instructional videos.

For research purposes, I use the table to keep notes in meetings, exchanges comments on papers with collaborators and annotate articles I read.

The iPad Pro and Apple pencil are easy to use and have been helpful for communicating with students and keeping track of notes, while reducing paper waste.
