Digital Storytelling Spring 2018

Hello, My name is Naike Ye, preferred to be called Nike. When they first meet me people say that I have a cool name for that it’s the name of the famous sports brand Nike, and that’s how people usually remember me!:)

I am from Beijing, China, a first-year student here at Vassar. I used to study in an international school implementing International Baccalaureate program for three years prior to coming to Vassar, and my high school life helped me navigate my interests in sciences. I also enjoy collaborating with others and work with students so I am also thinking of majoring in Education. One project that I have dedicated most of my time outside of classroom was working with the Bethel China Organization, which runs institutions that adopt orphans in local areas that are of visual impairments (you could find more information visiting http://bethelchina.org) We’ve been trying to raise people’s awareness and offering support in the ways we could. I look forward to working with all of you and am excited to explore how we could utilize technologies to enforce literacy teaching/learning in different content areas and how they could elicit critical discourses on different issues.

Hi, my name is Sophie, I’m from Massachusetts, and I’m a junior here at Vassar. I’m a psychology major and I would love to go into developmental psychology research and eventually maybe even into teaching!

When I’m not doing research on brains you can find me reading, running and jumping on the track team, watching The Office, or hiking different parts of the Appalachian trail. I recently came back from a semester in Copenhagen, Denmark and one of my favorite new-found hobbies is making videos about all of my adventures.

I’m taking this class because I’m particularly interested in the way humans learn, and can’t wait to learn more myself about the different forms of literacy in our changing world.

Hi! I’m a Junior math major at Vassar, also getting a teaching certification for middle and high school. I’ve lived all around the Boston area, but for the last decade or so I’ve lived in Cambridge. My hobbies include embroidery, student theater and dance, and reading. I’m also starting to work a little on contortionism with Vassar’s circus arts group, especially backbends. I work at Vassar’s math and science tutoring center, and I’ve also worked at several weekend and summer teaching programs. I have two cats, Buster and Elliot, who love everyone in my family except for me. I also edit the crossword for the student newspaper, so if you have any good ideas for themes, be sure to tell me!

A junior at Vassar College who ventured into the Education department, not quite knowing what the future may hold for her. Perhaps music teaching, or educational psychology research. Maybe classical singing, or how about the research of music education’s benefit regarding the psychological state of a student body?  It’s a bit unclear at the moment. She hails from Wilmington, Delaware (about half an hour off of Philadelphia), previously enamored with choral music conducting at the high school level, but now she wanders deeper into the Psychological Sciences department as well as the singing groups around campus. Regardless, her heart forever lies with bettering the high school experiences of adolescents across the US. The collaborative digital storytelling that EDUC-373 delights upon is an experience beyond exciting, bound to be an unforgettable opportunity! Perhaps you’ll find that her endeavors for the future are more clear after this course.
