The Story of the Evil Velveteen Rabbit

Karen and I worked long and hard to bring you this epic retelling of the traditional Velveteen Rabbit story! Told from the perspective of EVR (the evil twin brother of the velveteen rabbit), Karen’s version adds nuance, depth, and a previously unconsidered dark side to this common fairytale. We wrote many drafts and our final project for you all is a typical bed-time story reading, character voices and all. We just know you’ll love it!

Without further ado, here is EVR:

E.V.R. Update

Last week Karen and I got really into adding concrete details to the story’s basic plot line. I asked guiding questions, like who what when where why to help her elaborate on her ideas. It really helped her get into the mindset of her main characters, which helped her be a lot more attuned to the way the plot would organically develop. On the down side, all of this detail slowed us up a bit, so it’ll take us another week to finish the story–but when we get there it’s sure to be awesome!

Michelle & Karen: E.V.R. Update

We started to re-write E.V.R. We took major errors and fixed them, incorporated vivid imagery, and took it upon ourselves to explain the plot further. We constantly asked ourselves the questions who, what, where, when, why, and how? to improve the story. We also worked on developing the characters more fully by trying to show their conflicted emotions. We got halfway through the story and next time we’ll move onto the second half.

Update.

Hi there, fellow human beings.

Joe and I are still working on our latest project, W.W.S.D. We have taken most of your opinions for the main question. Some of you we gave time to think, while others we asked spontaneously. I explained as to why that was in the last update. I also wrote down some new question for the refection that will be also in the video. Today we did get far.

Update: Evil Bunny Project

In our most recent meeting, Karen and Amanda, whose respective partners were out for the day, teamed up together to create a temporary partnership. After some rapid bonding over a math worksheet, we got to work on Karen’s project. Because Karen and Michelle had a well formulated plan from the previous session, we were able to pick up right where they left off and round of the story of the Evil Velveteen Rabbit. Before diving headfirst into the writing of the story, we created story arc and Karen determined her story’s, rising actions, climax, and falling actions; we used the original Velveteen Rabbit as a jumping off point. Karen found an online of the version to remind us of the details of the story. Here is the link we used:

After we mapped out the story, Karen began writing and we talked about the importance of distinguishing between her words and the original text through quotation, citation, and italics. Karen was able to draft the story’s beginning and rising actions. Hopefully next session she can complete the first draft and start working on revision. Although Karen and Amanda may not have another opportunity to work together, Amanda is looking forward to seeing how the final project turns out.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

Hi, my name is Karen and I go to P.M.S. (Poughkeepsie Middle School). I love Social Studies and reading. My favorite colors are purple and red. I read my favorite book, The Forest of Hands and Teeth every day after I finish my homework. My dog’s name is Foxy and she loves to listen to music with me. She runs into my room when I’m listening to music and she snuggles up against me and doesn’t leave until my dad gets home from work.

Here’s my favorite song:
