Your apple ID has been locked

Why this looks valid

  • The message appears to be Apple.
  • The site linked in the email looks identical to Apple.
  • The message contains a lot of details including contact phone numbers to make it look more valid.
  • Account locks are not uncommon, due to criminals’ attempts to break in to user accounts on a regular basis.

Why this is phishing

  • The link that launches from the email does not go to apple.com.
  • The body of the email contains grammatical and spelling errors.
  • The phone numbers in the email are for Chase Banking, not Apple support.
  • The account recovery form asks for information that is never used to setup an Apple ID account, such as Social Security Number.

  • A little paranoia goes a long way! Be suspicious of any email messages similar to this one.
