Why this looks valid

  • The “from” field appears to be from an administrator from Vassar.

Why this is a virus

  • The originating email address is not an actual Vassar address.
  • The attachment is a “zip” file, not a PDF file.

Additional notes

  • Never open an attachment that you did not ask for.  This is an easy way for viruses to infect your machine.
  • Report it as spam to Google. Before deleting the message, make sure to click on “report spam”.
  • A little paranoia goes a long way! Be suspicious of any email messages similar to this one.
