Staff

 

Staff has multiple origins including baton twirling from the East Asian fei cha, combative training and martial arts in Polynesia and Hawaii, the bo staff used in Chinese martial arts, and the naginata used by female Japanese warriors. Modern contact staff as we know it originated in the UK in the 1990’s, and has since been influenced by several key flow artists including Mushy Pea Steve and Linda Farkas.
