In the present day, the club has changed their name to the Barefoot Fireflies, due to concerns raised by those that the word “monkey” has been used as a slur toward minority groups. The club has no intention of keeping such harmful language in the club especially if it is a driving factor to keep others away. This club will always focus on making this space welcoming and comfortable for all who choose to learn and have fun with us. Along with the name change, the club is working to help educate others in the area about the indigenous origins of spinning, and to help correct other forms of harmful language or actions in the club.
