Semester Classes
If you are interested in scheduling your semester course meetings in the Laybourne Visualization Laboratory (BLS 101), please submit your course location request to the Registrar (registrar@vassar.edu). Please note that priority is given to courses that have need of software that is available in the SciVis Lab and/or are coding heavy.
Single Class Period/Workshop/Meetings/Invited Lectures
If you are a Faculty member who would like to teach a single class/lab period, workshop, hold a meeting, or use the space for some other one-off purpose, please submit your request for approval using the EMS system under the “Request Visualization Lab Space” option (see screenshot below). All reservations must be submitted and approved through the EMS system to officially hold the space, and all Administrative Assistants should have access to this option within their EMS account. If not, contact Campus Activities (campusactivities@vassar.edu) and request this option be added to your EMS account. Please note that course reservations made by the Registrar take priority over all other reservations.
Students who would like to reserve the SciVis Lab for a study group should contact the Lab Manager for approval. Their email request should include the following:
- What course material the group will study
- Why the SciVis Lab meets their need (coding heavy course, course uses software found in the lab, etc)
- Title of the Event Request
- All dates and times requested
- Number of people in the study group
If your request is approved, you will receive a confirmation email from the Lab Manager and the EMS system. Please note that course reservations and faculty reservations take priority over student study groups.
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate non-academic bookings during the semester, as students need access to the specialized software in this lab for homework, projects, and research. During breaks when classes are not in session, non-academic departments may book the lab.
