Because of their close connection to neurons and many shared cellular functions, the astrocyte’s contribution to cognition has remained elusive. By targeting astrocytes with DREADDs (Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs) our lab can specifically activate astrocytes during behavioral tasks to assess their function.
