Important service!

One of the great benefits of attending a small liberal arts college is the amount of personalized academic attention students receive here. If you are working on a research project, request a research consultation with one of the Research Librarians. The librarian liaison for the department or interdisciplinary program in which you are working will respond to schedule a one-on-one appointment. Before you meet, the librarian will prepare by applying her expertise to some investigation of your topic and then will share the information with you.

The research opportunities in a rich library collection like Vassar’s are extraordinary. Research consultations are a great way to learn about the breadth of sources available and to make sure you don’t miss anything!

African American History Research at Vassar

In celebration of Black History month this February, we’re highlighting a few great sources for the study of African American history in Vassar Libraries’ collections.

center First, a moment from Vassar History: The Urban Center for Black Studies, located in Poughkeepsie, housed the first black studies program at Vassar in 1969. Contact Vassar’s Archives and Special Collections Library if you are interested in learning more about African American history at Vassar.

The library also has a rich collection of African American newspapers and periodicals and there are many research treasures that remain available only on microfilm.

Always remember that you can Ask a Librarian for help with these materials or with any other research you are doing!
