Development of Remote Sensing and Analysis Technology

Awardee: Michelle Tebolt

Semester of Award: 2024-2025

Materials Awarded: Agisoft Metashape Licenses (x5) – Processing software for drone data

Project Description:

This purchase is being used for the seminar course ESCI 385, Remote Sensing and Analysis of Terrestrial Planetary Bodies. The students are learning about different technology and datasets geologists use to collect data throughout the solar system. There is a large emphasis on drones. We have a trip planned where the class will collect data at the Mohonk preserve, and having 5 additional copies of the software Agisoft Metashape means the students will be able to work in pairs to process and analyze the data themselves (a key focus of the seminar style course). Additionally, this is a software I use for my own research often, and having multiple copies means in the future myself, other faculty, or students doing research projects can all work on processing data at the same time. This is important because often these are large datasets and the software can take ten+ hours to processes the data, so having multiple copies of the software allows for multiple workstations.
