eInk Android Tablet for Research and Grading

Awardee: Harrison Shieh

Semester of Award: Uncategorized

Materials Awarded: BOOX Note Air4 Color

Project Description:

I used it as my primary note taking device. Larger impact on research productivity, since I could read more papers with less eye fatigue while annotating. The workflow was papers could be read/annotated and then synced with my dropbox account so i could access those notes wherever and on whatever device. I used the notebook at conferences as my note taking device as well and that also proved to be a fruitful use of the device. I also played around with grading student papers and problem sets with this, although that proved to be a little more challenging given the workload from getting papers off Moodle onto this device wasn’t very smooth/automated.

Overall the tablet (especially the color eInk) is more useful as a research productivity tool as opposed to a pedagogical one. When compared with an iPad, i would say reading papers on this device was definitely a better experience given due to less eye fatigue, but admittedly that might be a somewhat niche use case for this.
