Residential fellows are an essential component of Exploring Transfer. Fellows live in the dormitory with the students and provide daily residential life support. They enrich the quality of the students’ lives by brainstorming, planning and attending social activities, including weekend trips to off-campus destinations in the Hudson Valley. The residential fellows' check-in with students daily and hold weekly group meetings. As those in closest contact with the students, they are the eyes and ears of the program and act as liaisons between the students and director. Fellows are required to attend weekly individual meetings with the director, and a weekly faculty and staff meeting and community dinner.
Working as an Exploring Transfer Residential Fellow is a demanding, but rewarding experience. As they respond to the various needs specific to community college students, the Residential Fellow will be required to demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills. In their advisory capacity, Residential Fellows will often face student-generated problems for which a prompt and creative solution is required. Typically these problems are performance-related and stem from difficulties the students face as they navigate the various intellectual, cultural and emotional challenges of the program. The Residential Teaching Fellows must, therefore, possess intellectual as well as emotional maturity.
