John Burroughs Journals
The John Burroughs Journals consist of a few facets:
- Migrating content to Fedora from HRVH’s CONTENTdm [complete]
- Uploading new content to both Fedora/Islandora and CONTENTdm [ongoing]
Primary stakeholders: Jeff Walker, Special Collections
Jeff Walker has hired a student to continue to transcribe Burroughs’ journals. As she completes them, she sends information along to the digital library. Joanna then uses a series of customized scripts to send the information to our repository as well as HRVH. This process occurs approximately once per semester.
Ancient coins
Shay consulted with Steve Taylor in ACS/CIS to work on a plan for an ancient coin collection used in Bert Lott’s classes. Using FileMaker Pro and WordPress, the students will catalog and provide essays on a series of images. Future classes will use the Loeb Gallery’s TMS system.
Digital Asset Management
Shay, Joanna, and Sharyn consulted with Julia Van Develder (Office of Communications) and Joann Potter (Loeb Gallery) in June 2011 regarding their needs for a digital asset management system. The Loeb will be implementing TMS this summer, and it will be used to manage their digital collections. The Office of Communications is looking for a solution that will allow management of high-quality images (originals and derivatives) for a variety of purposes, from ingest into the College’s website to press releases to possible sale. Joanna worked with Julia in August 2011 on a more practical metadata schema that brought their information inline with a standard Dublin Core crosswalk.
