Nadine Souto
Nadine is an international student from Caracas, Venezuela. She is a rising junior and sociology major. She also serves as community relations intern for Vassar’s College Committee on Sustainability.
Liz Jones
Liz is a senior Environmental Studies major. Her involvement with the Casperkill Assessment Project began last summer, when she worked with Vassar professor Kirsten Menking to examine the biogeochemical effects of increased road salting within the watershed. While collecting water samples at sites along the stream Liz often met community members who were eager to share stories about growing up in the watershed. She is excited to continue those conversations this summer, and to raise awareness about the importance of the Casperkill.
Emily Vail
Emily graduated from Vassar College in 2009 with a degree in Environmental Studies. Since June 2009, she has worked as the Collins Research Fellow for the Vassar College Environmental Research Institute. Her responsibilities include (but are not limited to) organizing environmental research with students and faculty, coordinating the Casperkill Watershed Alliance, and serving on the Dutchess Watershed Coalition to plan Dutchess Watershed Awareness Month. She has been studying various aspects of the Casperkill Creek since 2007.
Will Jobs
Will Jobs graduated from Vassar College in May 2010 with a Bachelor of
Arts in Chemistry. As the 2010-2011 Collins fellow he is looking forward
to learning a lot about the Casperkill and meeting the many individuals
who are working to learn more about it, expanding efforts to revitalize
it, and teaching the community about its importance. He enjoys running
the local trails in his free time and is excited to learn about the
history of the Casperkill Creek.
Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert
Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert is Professor of Hispanic Studies at Vassar College and current director of the Environmental Studies Program. Her work focuses on culture and the environment in the Caribbean.
This project is such an incredible resource for the Poughkeepsie and Vassar communities! Kudos on all of the hard work and excellently-presented results. It is wonderful to see the progress that CAP has made in the last four years.
