Hi, I’m Sam and Sam I am

by on February 10th, 2011

Where you are from?

I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland about 5 minutes north of Washington, DC. I’ve lived in Poughkeepsie ever since, 4 years as a student at Vassar and the past 3 years as an Admission Officer.

As an Admission Officer, what areas are you responsible for travelling to and reading?

Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, British Columbia (Canada), and a small slice of southern Westchester County in New York.

What else do you do in the Office of Admission?

I work with our alumni volunteers around the world who interview prospective students, attend college fairs, and continue to work with their alma mater. I also coordinate the programs that allow prospective students to visit classes or stay overnight on campus.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

I have two! For a work environment, the Library, and one of the tables in the long halls in the front part of the Library. This is where I wrote most of my thesis. For a less stressful time, the path around Sunset Lake, which is a wonderful route around one of our lakes that I always find relaxing. You can check it out here: http://admissions.vassar.edu/tour/noflash/outdoor_sunset.html.

What is your favorite dish on campus?

Absolutely the breakfast wrap at the Retreat! It is a wrap with eggs, cheese, ham (if desired), onions, and peppers, and it comes with a side of home fries. I will have it for any meal of the day. Yum!

What is your favorite dish off campus?

Unfortunately, it is not green eggs and ham. I never really got into that. The real answer is hard because there are so many restaurants nearby. If I had to pick, it would be the Double Crème Brie at Beech Tree Grill (which is right across the street from Vassar).

When stuck in traffic, what song do you start singing?

This tends to change a lot for me. Right now it is Undisclosed Desires by Muse (http://muse.mu/media-player/albums/47/the-resistance/).
