Studying, Studying, Yeah!

by Benedict on February 17th, 2012

Hey everyone! In case you missed my posts in the fall, my name is Benedict and I’m a Multicultural Recruitment Intern in the Office of Admission. I’m a freshman from Virginia and I’ll be blogging about once a month this semester.

Learning: It’s why we go to college, right? Of course, new life experiences, new friends, etc. are all part of it but surely, learning is the number one reason why we’re all here. And Vassar is definitely a marvelous place to do it all.

It’s such a great place that in fact, one of my biggest daily dilemmas is not whether I should study but where I should study. There are so many options! A quick overview:

My room: The most obvious. All of my stuff is here. When I’m done for the night, I can go right to sleep. Cons: My bed is right there. I’ll tell myself, “Oh, I can definitely knock out a few more pages on my bed.” Five minutes later, I may or may not still be awake.

Cushing parlor: The prettiest. Warm comfy couches and soft lighting. I think if I wanted to send pictures of myself studying home, I would take them there. Of course, when half of my fellow group is sitting next to me, I have a little trouble focusing. But we sure look like we’re studying!

The library: The furthest. One of the few cons about living in Cushing is that it’s furthest house from the library. (Lucky Raymond!)  Besides walking, I also have to pack up all my books so it ends up being quite the endeavor. But, I’m hardly more productive than when I’m there. Great for long marathon sessions of reading, writing, or often both!

Studying in the library!

Of course, after spending the last two weeks of the first semester studying at the library, I’ve only been there a few times this semester. Going to the library is a commitment that’s hard to make in between classes, work study, and evening meetings. But, with midterms coming up in the next few weeks, I’m sure I’ll find myself there again soon!

But for tonight, where should I go? #Vassarproblems
