SKI FREE!

by anbeen on February 13th, 2012

This weekend I had a ski team race at Magic Mountain in Vermont. And what a fabulous weekend it was! Ski team is a marvelous collection of individuals. And the great thing is, you don’t have to have ever skied before to join the team! The only requirement is that you have to be willing to have a good time and commit a couple weekends of every winter to spend in Vermont. Not too bad, eh? This was the last race of the season, and it was the annual costume race. Vassar races in the McBrine division alongside URI, Yale, Wesleyan, Brandeis, Wellesley, Springfield, and Castleton. Our costume theme for this year was “real monsterz!”

And I’m proud to say I am in possession of a Max costume from the book, Where the Wild Things Are. JoAnn’s Fabrics is a wonderful place… Anyway, the team rented a house, and we had a lot of alums come hang out with us for the weekend. I felt like I got a lot closer to the rest of the team, which was wonderful. Because I have an injury and am unable to race, I ended up commentating the race from the finish line, which was probably the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me. I was given a microphone and was in charge of reading times over the loudspeaker. I must say, it does give you quite an empowered feeling. I told a lot of jokes as well. (What do you call an alligator wearing a vest? … An investigator!)
