I love my fellow group!

Here's the cake we made!

I can hardly believe I’ve been a Vassar freshman for over two months. The past nine weeks have been such a blur but I’m already starting to feel like a real part of this wonderful community. Nearly all of the people that I’ve met have been incredibly kind and helpful. It’s made the transition to college so much easier.

A key part of the freshman experience at Vassar is your fellow group, which consists of 8-12 freshmen living in the same hall of a house. Each fellow group has an upperclassman, usually a sophomore, who also lives in their hall and serves as their Student Fellow. The Student Fellows in my house, Cushing, are so open and friendly; they truly want to be your friends and help you get adjusted to college. They provide support, answer questions, and even carry your luggage to your room on move-in day.

Having a fellow group is also a really nice way to make friends in the first few weeks at Vassar. Moving into a college campus with over 2000 brand new people was definitely a little overwhelming. But getting to know the people in your hall makes everything less stressful. Your fellow group is someone to go to study at the library with, someone to wave to in between classes, someone to share a pleasantly long dinner with at the ACDC. Someone to help you feel at home.

Last month was the first birthday of the year in our fellow group. We baked him a cake, decorated his (and his roommate’s) door and celebrated in our Student Fellow’s room. The next night, we all went out to Babycakes, a small cafe just off of campus on Collegeview Avenue. for dinner. Needless to say, we celebrated his 18th birthday in style!
