Hey friends!

by Benedict on October 7th, 2011

Just hanging out outside my house, Cushing! You know, casual.

My name is Benedict and I’m a freshman from northern Virginia (not just Virginia). I lead a pretty awe-inspiring life here at Vassar: I am undecided about my major (and very happily so), a resident of Cushing, and a Multicultural Recruitment Intern in the Admissions Office.

So why did I choose Vassar? It’s hard to say. I couldn’t really pinpoint one specific moment where I knew Vassar was the school for me. Besides the breathtakingly gorgeous campus, I guess what really sold me and what’s made the first few weeks here so wonderful is the sense of community that I get from Vassar students. Vassar’s large enough that not everyone knows everyone but small enough that I feel like I can form those close relationships with people that are so important to making me feel at home.

I started working in the Admissions Office about a month ago and have loved every minute I’ve been here. As part of my job, I get to write about my experience at Vassar thus far and thought I’d share some stories with you on this blog. Stay tuned!

The super-humble Benedict was recently elected President of the Freshman class!

PS the sense of community extends beyond the student-student interactions, but exists (I’m very happy to find) amongst the professors and staff as well – speaks to the kind of community energy that Vassar brings together 🙂
