What’s Going on in the Admission Office?

by on March 5th, 2011

You may be wondering what we are doing right now, so here is a little snapshot.

Most of us are emerging from reading files for (too) many hours every day and moving over into our committee process. At Vassar, every single application goes to the Committee on Admission.  For example, this means that after I read all the applications from Maryland, I then present each application and we make a decision. Some decisions are easier and some harder, meaning there are short discussions (usually the easy admit or deny) and long discussions (those in the middle).

Preparing for committee takes a lot of time! I have to organize hundreds of files, check everything for accuracy, and prepare everything I need for my presentations. So right now on my desk are: application files (that colorful stack), snacks (Pop ‘ems today from the Freihoffers factory store!), and a Lego White House (a recent project in my “spare time”).

We have about a month to finish making all of our decisions, which means a lot to do! I will try to post more details as we approach the end of March.
