English Language Exchange with Ad Dar Center

In the Fall of 2015, Vassar College students along with Sarah Lawrence College students helped refugees practice their English conversation skills over Skype. We partnered with the Ad Dar Center and collaborated to create a program where the college students provide weekly English conversation sessions to interested refugee students. These sessions helped strengthen the refugee’s English skills as they prepared for exams or aspired to attend universities in the future. These interactions also provided the possibility for a cultural exchange and to form transnational relationships. We hope that by creating a welcoming space for both students to learn about one another, this program fosters academic and personal growth for both parties.
