VAST started off on Monday, September 23 and was quite the success. All of our middle school scholars are divided into classroom groups. Each classroom has a Head Mentor, an experienced Vassar student who will supervise the scholars as they do homework with their mentors.<\/p>\n

During the first week, Head Mentors led icebreaker games in their classrooms to make sure students and mentors all learned each others’ names. Then, the scholars and mentors worked together to create “Classroom Contracts,” a list of rules everyone in the classroom needs to follow. We like to give the scholars a chance to create their own classroom rules based on what is important to them.<\/p>\n

The scholars also created a name for their classrooms. You can see their group names and classroom contracts below.<\/p>\n

The 6th Grade All-Stars in Room 116: scholars Vanessa, Jarred, Owen, Nazayar, Jordan, Elijah, Summer, Treasure, and Nykia, and mentors Anthony, Morgan, Haley, Hannah, Lily, Elsa, and Ruthie. Head Mentor= Anna<\/em><\/p>\n

The 7th Grade Cheetahs in Room 117: scholars Brittannia, Kyla, Daisy, Aniyah, Aaron, Wasfi, Kareema, and Keon, and mentors Arianna, Sophia, Julian, and Sam. Head Mentor= Kristen<\/em><\/p>\n

The 8th Grade Tangling Monkeys in Room 119 are scholars Chanda, Javier, Zak, Lucas, Tiffany, and Vizyion, and mentors Saskia, Sarah, Debbie, and Henry. Head Mentor= Lauren<\/em><\/p>\n

The 7th grade group “The Cafe” is made up of scholars Darion, Asiatic, Kyron, Brian, Jacob, Jarraya, Jacqueline, and Olivia, and mentors Gabi, Brittany, Cathy, Sam, Mary, Paige, Rachel F., and Emily. Head Mentor= Marco<\/em><\/p>\n

The scholars created very effective rules and showed they are ready to start off a fantastic year of VAST.<\/p>\n
